In anticipation of Stranger Things season 4, Netflix released a sneak peek trailer that revealed some clues and mostly let us know that they’re almost done with their final product. The preview is meant to satisfy fans after many delays in filming due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the production of major effects by a small team. They also finally announced that season 4 would premiere in 2022.

The nearly three-year wait has been undeniably hard since season 3 was released over the 4th of July holiday in 2019. The last season ended with Hopper supposedly dead, and the Byer family adding Eleven to their home and moving away from Hawkins. However, there was a glimmer of hope during the end credits when a Russian penitentiary boasted of having an American locked up, who we all assumed was Hopper, as well as a Demogorgon within their prison.

Last year’s first teaser trailer confirmed that Hopper did not die in the seemingly fatal blast and had somehow ended up imprisoned by Russians halfway across the world.

What have we learned from the Stranger Things Season 4 Sneak peek

Was Eleven Captured?

One of the most striking images from the new trailer is Eleven seemingly being held against her will by two men in suits. Did the lab goons finally catch up with Eleven with Hopper is out of the picture? Hopper was warned to stay low, and although Eleven was miserable, keeping their family off the lab’s radar was going to save her from being captured. Now Hopper is not around, and the government may have finally found its secret weapon.

Do the kids have a new mission on their hands?

In one moment during the trailer, Nancy’s silhouette enters a darkened room. On what looks like the same day, the rest of the gang walks around with flashlights in a home. The one person obviously out of the loop is Eleven. Are the kids going to save Eleven from the lab?

Hopper and his new gun

A now bald Hopper appears in a doorway with what looks like a flamethrower. This could be a small glimpse of Hopper’s escape from his Russian prison. If anything, Hopper could have stolen a gun from the prison to make his escape.

The Hawkins Cheerleaders

A group of cheerleaders wearing orange and green appear in a cheer pose. Lucas, Dustin, and Mike will likely be in high school, and we can only assume this is a clip from a school event as no one is recognizable in the group.

Who crashed their car?

The trailer also features the silhouette of a boy, who looks like Will Byers, watching a burning car. The car is tires-up in the middle of the road, and it seems like the event takes place at night.

Did they crash Joyce or Jonathan’s car? Could this be the aftermath of Eleven’s capture? Did Will make a daring escape from a car crash?

Is Eleven’s Papa back?

The trailer also shows Eleven peering into a room in a facility. Although we see a sliver of Eleven’s face, you can almost bet she’s sporting her buzzcut, which likely makes this scene a flashback.

That’s not to say Doctor Brenner won’t be back, as another trailer featured his voice calling out to Eleven. Always remember the horror movie code for dead people. If you didn’t see the body, don’t assume they’re dead.

The end is near in Stranger Things Season 4

The one thing that the trailers have not teased much is Upside Down activity. Here’s hoping those are the parts that Netflix will not tease before the show airs. The exception is the Demogorgon that we know is locked up in the same prison as Hopper. A Demogorgon that will surely become a problem sometime during the season.

Collider reports that David Harbour has said Season 4 is his favorite because of how ambitious and over the top they’ve gone. He also said this season is setting up the road to a definitive ending. The Duffer Brothers have indicated that they have been plotting with the endgame in sight.

As lovely as Stranger Things is as a series, it was never meant to have the long lifespan of other TV shows, despite its consistently growing popularity. The Duffer Brothers had always known how the show was going to end and that they didn’t want to churn out seasons with no end in sight.

That almost solidifies that, at the very least, we will get a Season 5. Yet, we still don’t have a month for Strangers Things Season 4. What we can expect is that the premiere date will coincide with an event or holiday in 1986. Elite Daily has cleverly theorized that it will be released in April because of the Chernobyl disaster since Hopper is now in that part of the world. The sooner the better.
