The Walking Dead: 5 reasons Maggie is going to see Negan

Maggie is en route to see Negan. Will this visit be a fatal one for the former Saviors leader or does Maggie have other plans?

After witnessing Cyndie from Oceanside’s empowerment and subsequent murder of a Savior (well, some may see it as murder, others see it as justice), Maggie has completely changed direction. After turning both their backs on the death of Arat, the two agree Rick’s way is over at the end of “Warning Signs” and it’s time to see Negan.

What will happen when Maggie gets to Negan’s jail cell? Initially, she may have just wanted to see him locked up and slowly withering away. But after having executed Gregory, and still holding onto the pain of Glenn’s death, we can easily see Maggie intends to get rid of Negan once and for all. We look at the possible paths Maggie will take as she heads to Alexandria to visit her husband’s killer.

Maggie will negotiate with Rick

After many pointless conversations with Rick, I think Maggie has no intention of asking Rick to kill Negan. She already knows that Rick doesn’t listen to reason — well, her reasoning right now, anyway. However, I do believe Maggie may show up at Alexandria to negotiate an offer that Rick can’t refuse.

If Maggie could leverage the food and supplies she’s been providing in exchange for Negan. Thus Rick may have to consider the death of one person versus the suffering of many. Whatever Maggie decides to offer, the bottom line is she could push for Negan’s death through a negotiation, versus outright killing him.

She plans to warn Negan

As the head of Hilltop, Maggie has earned the skills of a leader and become more organized and calculated. So, maybe Maggie is not up for a sloppy attempt at murdering Negan and instead intends on warning him. Maggie may ask Rick to let her see Negan so she can tell him that his days are numbered.

Negan was well versed in psychological warfare on the minds of those under his rule, and it is probable that Maggie intends on using the same scare tactic. Maybe Maggie wants to impress some words on Negan that will haunt him with the intent on returning and doing exactly what she says she’s going to do.

Rick’s threatened

Maggie also has the option of threatening Rick and taking Negan by force. Seeing as Cyndie took matters in her own hands the same way that Maggie did with Gregory, Maggie could be motivated to force Rick to hand over Negan at any cost.

Now, this outcome would cause Maggie to lose all credibility as a leader. We’re not sure if she’s really willing to take that risk, as her actions don’t just impact her anymore.  There’s baby Hershel’s safety to consider. Still, Maggie’s made it clear to Rick in one-on-one conversations that she’s not too happy with the way he leads. Perhaps she feels with enough backup from fellow citizens across the community scorned by Negan, she’ll have what she needs to threaten or even topple Rick’s command.

Negan will be killed

Finally, Maggie could make this fairly simple. Go to Alexandria, get into Negan’s cell, and kill him.

Despite the consequences she may face after — Rick’s anger, her leadership being threatened or taken from her — we can’t forget how much anger and vengeance is stored within her. She saw her husband brutally murdered by Negan. She saw him given mercy by someone she trusted. She’s watching her baby grow up without a father. It’s a lot to allow, and at some point, Maggie could break down and go for the kill.

No matter what Maggie decides once she reaches Alexandria, the aftermath of her decisions could determine how her character exits the show. If Maggie decides to make some hasty decisions, she may have to leave her position at Hilltop.

And if that happens, perhaps we’ll revisit Georgie, whose letters mean she may serve an important purpose of her own this season.
