Marvel’s Iron Fist cancelled after two seasons on Netflix, but it may not be the end

The second season of Marvel’s Iron Fist was its strongest. Although Netflix announced the series is being canceled, it may be picked up by Disney.

Despite a drastic improvement in Iron Fist‘s second season, Deadline reported that Netflix would be canceling the series and there will be no third season. It is the first cancellation ever out of the 4 Marvel-affiliated Netflix series. However, it doesn’t come as a big surprise that Iron Fist is the one to get the big chop, as the show has been struggling to gain its footing since it first started.

The series opens with a loopy Danny Rand showing up to reclaim his family’s business after being missing for 15 years. The first season spends too much time on Rand understanding his identity, and he lacks credibility as a martial arts master. In truth, the series would have done a lot better with Colleen Wing–Rand’s dojo owning friend and martial arts partner in crime–as the Iron Fist since her character arc ismore compelling.

Since the first season’s lousy turnout, it seemed that Netflix really tried to give the series some life. That included The Defenders, which allowed stronger series characters like Luke Cage, Daredevil, and Jessica Jones to hold up the story. Even with the new showrunner in the second season and the introduction of Typhoid Mary, there were still areas where Iron Fist could have improved, but this time fans were hopeful for change given the new comics-driven possibilities, and now that’s no longer going to happen–or will it?

Finn Jones posted this final message on the end of Iron Fist to his Instagram account:

Jones’ insistence that “with every end is a new beginning” may be directed towards Iron Fist’s future meaning that the series may live on — just not on Netflix. The Verge speculated that Iron Fist could end up on Disney’s new streaming service set to be released in 2019. While Luke Cage, Daredevil, and Jessica Jones will remain on Netflix at the very least for their third seasons, The Iron Fist could join the likes of other Disney bound series in development like the MCU’s Scarlet Witch and Loki and Star Wars: The Mandalorian.

Would you watch a third season of Iron Fist if it went to Disney?
