Bruce Wayne showed up at a funeral to pay his respects but received a deadly message from The Riddler instead. The latest trailer of The Batman starring Robert Patterson is a dramatic scene that teases just how scary The Riddler will be in the upcoming film.

The scene had been previously leaked, so director Matt Reeves released the 4K sneak peek for the fans. The scene starts with Bruce being approached by Bella Reál, who is running for office, regarding his lack of philanthropy. It seems that in this stage in Wayne’s life, he hasn’t continued his parents’ legacy in helping Gotham.

Wayne focuses on the young son of the deceased obviously because he understands what it’s like to lose a parent at such a young age. He overhears Commissioner Gordon saying that the district attorney has gone missing. Wayne is then distracted by the shadow of a man in the rafters looking over everyone right before a car crashes right into the funeral.

Wayne throws himself at the young boy he was watching and saves his life. The man at the wheel is the missing district attorney with a bomb strapped to his neck, a phone taped to his hand, and an envelope taped to his stomach addressed to Batman. What a way to make an entrance!

The Batman has already uncovered a very dark story of a Batman that intends to fight crime but is still struggling with the trauma of his parent’s passing. The creators have made it clear that although this is not about Batman’s beginning, it is only his second year wearing the cowl, so everything is still fresh.

Thus far, the trailers have uncovered a very broody version of Wayne encountering his most infamous villains in their initial form. The Riddler is not in his question mark-covered suit yet and has been featured wearing a clunky jacket with a face full of masking tape. The Batman will also feature Robin, Poison Ivy, Carmine Falcone, Catwoman, and The Penguin. We should all brace ourselves for a dark and thrilling tale.

The Batman will hit theatres on March 4, 2022.
