Marvel might be making a Dark Avengers movie

Marvel is rumored to have a completed Dark Avengers script in possession, which prompts us to ask: Is there a Dark Avengers movie in our near future?

Avengers: Infinity War sparked a cataclysmic chain of events with Thanos’ famed finger snap that has allowed Marvel to tie in movies like Captain Marvel, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and next year’s Avengers movie. With so many of these projects coming out back to back to form an even greater story, Marvel has opened the door to so many comics that could be brought to life on the big screen.

And the rumor of the moment, as reported by MCU Exchange by way of That Hashtag Show, is this: Marvel has a Dark Avengers script.

And for those that are struggling to remember who the Dark Avengers are, here’s a quick refresher. The Dark Avengers are a super team assembled by Norman Osborn. Yes, the same Osborn whose greatest claim to fame is being Spider-Man’s greatest foe, the Green Goblin. Only, Osborn claims to have reformed himself and rebranded his superhero identity as the Iron Patriot.

The initial assembled Dark Avengers team consisted of a mix of supervillains and supervillains disguised as other renowned superheroes. This allowed for Mac Gargen’s Venom to portray Spider-Man with the help of a symbiote that would allow him to be Spider-Man’s size and not the overmuscled creature he usually is. Meanwhile, Moonstone fills in as Ms. Marvel, and Bullseye is the Hawkeye of the team. Finally, Osborn’s Iron Patriot is basically an Iron Man/Captain America hybrid. Basically, Osborn fools the government for a bit of with a team that doesn’t have the moral obligations that the standard Avengers do.

Making the Dark Avengers movie would be a reasonable production considering that the Dark Avengers can now be weaved into Marvel’s ongoing superhero story, especially with Captain Marvel‘s release next year. Osmond’s involvement with the Dark Avengers includes recreating a government agency called H.A.M.M.E.R. to replace S.H.I.E.L.D. That also comes as a result of the government learning that during the Skrull invasion, Tony Stark’s technology used within the S.H.I.E.L.D was compromised, making the agency unreliable.

The introduction of the Skrulls in Captain Marvel could later lead to the creation of H.A.M.M.E.R. and the Dark Avengers. And based on the social media buzz over just the possibility of a Dark Avengers movie happening, I would say that Marvel would be smart to consider the project seriously.

As MCU Exchange so responsibly noted, a completed script doesn’t mean it will make it to production and filming. Many scripts that are optioned never leave the first stages to make it to negotiations.

So, there is no guarantee that this will be a future Marvel movie. At this point, the Dark Avengers are a wonderful rumor that we hope will be added to the Marvel movie collection.
