“A. Malcolm” (Season 3, Episode 6)

What happens: Claire and Jamie finally make their way back to each other. Love is redeclared, pictures are shared and all is right with the world.

Why it’s important: “A. Malcolm” is basically “The Wedding: Part II.” It’s all about the connection Claire and Jamie share, how it’s strong enough to overcome 20 years apart, other relationships, illegitimate children and a ton of additional emotional baggage. Even hardcore cynics will have a hard time keeping the smile from their faces as they watch this episode.

There’s also a fair amount of sex. I mean, it is Outlander.

Other, non-romantic chess pieces are set up in “A. Malcolm,” too, including the revelation that Jamie has been illegally smuggling whiskey and is using his print-shop to create seditious pamphlets. We meet the people he’s been hanging out with in Claire’s absence, and catch up with the couple’s adopted son, Fergus, who became extremely hot in the intervening two decades.

Season 3’s story is advanced in “A. Malcolm,” but the episode mostly serves as an hour-plus of purely joyful fan service. All the viewers wanted through the previous five episodes was for Claire and Jamie to reunite — and “A. Malcolm” made it well worth the wait.

The best part: All of it, but the special shout-out goes to Geordie, Jamie’s put-upon assistant at the print-shop.
