Heading into the Aquaman sequel, we knew things were going to change. And now, Jason Momoa has given us a first look at a whole new suit for our hero.

When the first Aquaman arrived on scenes, there were plenty of critics, after all this is a comic book character who has been mocked more than he has been appreciated. Aquaman has been the butt of any number of jokes, and then Jason Momoa took up the mantle.

With Momoa stepping into the role of Arthur Curry/Aquaman, we got a hero you want to take seriously. And we do.

And part of what many comic book fans appreciated about the original film was the fact that they actually took inspiration from the classic comics, including creating a suit that looked like it came right out of the pages of those comics. It was still a sleek and stunning super suit but made to represent the origins of this character.

However, as we head into the Aquaman sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, we are getting a whole new look for our hero. And it is one that ditches the old-school comics and brings forth a sleek and even sexy new look.

But, if you are in any way familiar with the comics, then this new suit is actually a bit familiar. You see, while it may not be the same suit that we all think of when it comes to our hero, it is actually similar to another suit the hero has worn in one of the comics. Is it a classic look? Not at all. But it still works and it brings even more seriousness to the character.

After the success of the first Aquaman movie, we want to see how Jason Momoa is able to give this character the same level of gravitas that Superman and Batman have been able to exude for years, no matter how they were portrayed (looking at you Christopher Reeves’ Superman and Adam West’s Batman). And with a new costume adding a new level of dignity to the hero, it will be interesting to see how this all plays into the idea of a lost kingdom and the deep, dark depths of the sea.

Aquaman is not your typical superhero and his new costume is not your typical underwater suit. And we are all okay with this.
