Best movie musicals: Frozen

When it comes to movie musicals, we sometimes forget that animated movies count too. And it would be impossible to have a list of some of the best movie musicals and not include Frozen at the very least. Not only does it feature some of the best songs and most powerful voices, but the story itself is beautiful in so many ways.

For what feels like the first time in Disney history, it seems like we have a movie about princesses who don’t need a romantic partner to save the day. Instead, Anna and Elsa need each other. And that is powerful storytelling in its own right.

Of course, the music is what really makes a musical pop. And you can’t deny the fact that “Let It Go,” “Do You Wanna Build a Snowman,” and “First Time in Forever,” deserve to be appreciated. In fact, these are three of my favorite songs, even with “Let It Go” being sung on repeat for what felt like forever.

Honestly, this is a movie that made a major impact on pop culture and that alone should give it the respect it deserves. And it would feel wrong to leave this off a list of greatest movie musicals, as it delivers on everything we expect from these films. A stunning story, beautiful songs, and great vocals all come together to give us Frozen.

While “Let It Go” may have been the song everyone associates with this movie, I have to give a special shoutout to “Do You Wanna Build a Snowman.” How can you listen to Anna singing this to her sister and not get a bit emotional? She doesn’t understand why her sister is no longer even speaking to her and she doesn’t know it has anything to do with her. Seriously, not only is the song heartbreaking, but that entire scene is.
