Best movie musicals: Into the Woods

Perhaps what makes Into the Woods so impressive is the cast. We are talking about an ensemble that includes the likes of Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Chris Pine, Anna Kendrick, and James Corden, to name just a few.

While I know some people who hated the fact that this movie basically involved singing the entire time, for other viewers, that was what helped make this film so magical as a musical. We are talking about a fantastical tale that is inspired by multiple stories from the Grimm Brothers’ fairy tales.

However, this is more than just a movie with song, dance, romance, and a happy ending. We get to watch a journey into the woods where each of these characters must deal with the consequences of their actions. And that better life lesson is there, than to have fairy tale characters deal with what they have done (we don’t see it as often as we probably should.

In terms of the music itself, there are so many songs that make up the soundtrack for Into the Woods that they ended up releasing not one, but two different albums. And with so many talented performers, it feels like many of these songs contributed to the overall magic of the movie. (I’ll admit, one of my favorites is the duet between Emily Blunt and Anna Kendrick, “A Very Nice Prince.”)
