Best movie musicals: Oklahoma!

If you are a fan of musicals, then it would be impossible to forget or ignore Oklahoma!. Not only is this the first official musical that Rodgers and Hammerstein collaborated on, but it was also the movie they worked the closest on. Not only did they make sure that almost nothing was changed from their original Broadway production, but they did it in a way that still let their source material shine.

Whether you are a history buff, a lover of classic Hollywood, or a musical fan, this is the one film that you should know and watch at least once. And while the music is what really sells a musical, the way this production was crafted is so important to the history of the modern movie musical that it deserves its place near the very top of our list.

Oklahoma! is in many ways a story of a love triangle set in a time when survival was more important than romance. And yet there is so much more to this story than romance and survival, this is a story of perseverance, finding what you want in life, and being willing to fight for what’s yours.

Of course, we can’t forget the music, because that is what makes this movie part of our list. And of all the songs in this film, there is no doubt that you have likely heard of at least one, “Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin.” Not only is this song one of the best things to come out of Oklahoma!, but it is a piece of pop culture that remains just as important as any other.
