Best movie musicals: The Wizard of Oz

We can’t include The Wiz and not include The Wizard of Oz when looking at great movie musicals. And as a movie that was originally released in 1939, we have to give a lot of credit to this film for being truly timeless.

There is so much magic in this movie that it is impossible to focus on just one aspect of what makes this musical so great. Not only does it star the legendary Judy Garland, but everyone knows this story. We are talking about a pop culture icon here.

This is a musical that has influenced so much of the entertainment industry. Who hasn’t heard “Over the Rainbow” at least once? And what about “We’re Off to See the Wizard?” It feels like the entire soundtrack of this movie is timeless.

As a bonus, it helps that there is something about this story that is so much more than just a girl killing a witch or two in a magical land. This is the story of finding home and being thankful for what you have. It is about finding one’s courage, heart, and inner strength.

The Wizard of Oz will always be one of my favorite movies of all time and it will live on forever as a classic. No matter how many times Hollywood tries to remake this movie, there is only one real Wizard of Oz, and you can never fix perfection.
