27 best movie musicals of all-time: Hamilton, Wizard of Oz and more
Best movie musicals: Mary Poppins
When it comes to iconic movie musicals, you can’t have a complete list without including Mary Poppins. And when one of the people starring in that musical is Julie Andrews, then you know it is a must-watch.
What Mary Poppins does is deliver a fantasy adventure that features brilliant songs, a story of redemption and family, and of course plenty of singing and dancing. And the fact that Andrews is joined by the iconic Dick Van Dyke cements this movie as a masterpiece (not only of its time, but now too).
Over the years, Mary Poppins has been able to cement its place in the history books as a piece of art that is culturally significant. And it has long been called a crowning achievement of Walt Disney in terms of his live-action works.
Honestly, I can’t imagine this movie not being beloved. Not only did it give us dancing penguins and enchanted carousel horses, but it also gave us some of the most amazing songs. We are talking about “A Spoonful of Sugar,” “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” and “Chim Chim Cher-ee,” all of which were not only fun, but also so well-written that they stick with you long after the singing is over and the movie has ended.
It may be the fact that Julie Andrews is the star, but Mary Poppins is an eternal classic that deserves all the love and appreciation.
