5 Jurassic Park places to explore at Universal Orlando before riding the Velocicoaster
While the June 10 Velocicoaster opening is approaching, there are other Jurassic Park places to explore before joining the hunt. Even though the new Universal Orlando ride might be the most highly anticipated attraction opening this summer, the reality is that the whole Jurassic Park area has many attractions. Why not start exploring now.
Located in Universal Islands of Adventure, the Jurassic Park area has several attractions and experiences to enjoy. Prior to the Velocicoaster opening, it can be fun to explore the area. After all, some people may not be ready for the huge thrill rides. And, others may not be ready for the potentially long wait times.
While the new roller coaster makes a striking appearance around the lake, the Jurassic Park area does feel like guests have entered into a jungle-like area. Granted the entrance from the Wizarding World is a little more authentic than the other entrance, but either path gets guests beyond the gates.
Wait there are more Jurassic Park attractions than just the Velocicoaster?
Previously, the biggest draw was the Jurassic Park River Adventure. Although some people enjoy this ride as a way to cool off on a hot day, that big drop at the end is always a thrill. Throughout the ride, guests get to see some of the popular creatures. Other than the big drop, it is rather calm.
For those people who do not want to get wet, you can wear a poncho. Some people believe certain rows are less wet than others. In the end, accept the wet and get on the boat.
Probably one of the most sought-after rides is the Pteranodon Flyers. Anyone who has had the opportunity to fly on this experience wants to go back time and again. Beyond the great view, it is fun to “fly” in that chair.
The reason why the Pteranodon Flyers is such a difficult ride to get on is because of the ride restrictions. Each rider must accompany someone who is under 36” tall. So, if you don’t have a child in your party or you can’t borrow a child, you can’t ride. It is one of the few places where being over 56” tall is a disadvantage.
A place where everyone can explore is Camp Jurassic. Now back open, this “prehistoric playground” features a variety of interactive areas. From slides to a water cannon, there are plenty of places to climb and play.
If you want a more personal experience, don’t miss a visit with Blue at the Raptor Encounter. While her handlers help to keep Blue calm, guests can snap a picture with that favorite dinosaur. Just be careful sometimes. She can be a little feisty.
Lastly, the Jurassic Park Discovery Center is a great place to take a break. While part of the area has been closed recently, it did offer a quiet refuge during a busy day. Now, Annual Passholders can enjoy the area as a special restaurant. If you are a pass holder ask about the option at the theme park.
With the Velocicoaster opening almost here, don’t forget about the other Jurassic Park attractions at Universal Orlando. Most importantly, make sure you get that churro. For those in the know, the most epic churro stand is at Universal Orlando in this area.
