With Arrow concluding more than a year ago and Supergirl and Black Lightning heading into their final seasons, The CW’s Arrowverse is becoming slimmer. The future seems to rest on the newer additions to the franchise, like Batwoman and Stargirl — and, of course, the upcoming Superman & Lois series.

Following Tyler Hoechlin’s Clark Kent and Elizabeth Tulloch’s Lois Lane — both initially introduced in Supergirl — Superman & Lois promises to deliver a refreshing take on these DC Comics characters who have been portrayed numerous times over the years.

What makes this rendition of their story so interesting is that it will see the two balancing parenthood with their superhero responsibilities, making it equal parts action and drama.

Superman & Lois is one of The CW’s biggest premieres of 2021, so you won’t want to miss out on this new series. Here’s what we know about it so far.

Superman & Lois release date

Superman & Lois will premiere on The CW on February 23 at 8 p.m. ET, bringing fans a two-hour episode to kick off the series. Details about the show’s pilot have been kept under wraps for the time being, but fans can assume we’ll see Clark and Lois make the move from Metropolis to Smallville — and that we’ll get to know their teenage sons and family dynamic a bit better.

Superman & Lois cast

In addition to Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch reprising their Arrowverse roles as Clark Kent and Lois Lane, respectively, the cast of Superman & Lois will include:

  • Alexander Garfin as Jordan Kent, one of Clark and Lois’ sons
  • Jordan Elsass as Jonathan Kent, Clark and Lois’ other son and Jordan’s twin brother
  • Dylan Walsh as General Sam Lane, Lois’ father
  • Emmanuelle Chriqui as Lana Lang-Cushing, Clark’s first love
  • Erik Valdez as Kyle Cushing, Lana’s husband

Superman & Lois synopsis

Superman & Lois is set after the events of the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover, and will reportedly see the two moving back to Smallville with their two teenage sons. (Yes, the whole multiverse thing is playing its part by turning their one infant into two teens.)

Clark and Lois will be dealing with things like parenting, layoffs, and love triangles (sigh) on top of whatever heroic actions they’ll be forced to take. Per CBR, the series’ official synopsis says:

"“In SUPERMAN & LOIS, after years of facing megalomaniacal supervillains, monsters wreaking havoc on Metropolis, and alien invaders intent on wiping out the human race, the world’s most famous superhero, The Man of Steel aka Clark Kent (Tyler Hoechlin, “Teen Wolf”) and comic books’ most famous journalist, Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch, “Grimm”), come face to face with one of their greatest challenges ever — dealing with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society.”"

Sounds like Clark and Lois are going to have a harder time readjusting to “normal life” than fighting monsters and alien invaders. Typical.

Superman & Lois trailer

In line with the show’s synopsis, the full-length trailer for Superman & Lois teases an emotional combination of your average Arrowverse series and a family drama — one that sees Clark and Lois trying to balance their two separate lives.

The footage teases some disbelief from Clark’s sons upon finding out their father is Superman, as well as Clark’s doubts about his ability to be a father.
