A new trailer for the upcoming CW series Superman & Lois reveals that real life has a way of impacting everyone, even the Man of Steel and his wife. Superman & Lois is coming to the CW in February, giving Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman and Elizabeth Tulloch’s Lois Lane a chance to shine in a series of their own.

Superman & Lois is the newest show in the ever-expanding DC Universe on the CW, featuring the Man of Steel, Lois and their two boys. The trailer is reflective of all of the struggles we’re all experiencing; in a voice-over, Lois talks about the things they never could have imagined dealing with, including losing jobs, losing parents and trying to help their sons cope with stress.

There’s also the not-so-small matter of their sons learning that their father is, in fact, Superman.

The trailer seems to capture several big moments for the Kent family as they adjust to life outside Metropolis. There are lots of good-natured laughs and family moments, but there are also big threats out there and even Superman can’t catch a break sometimes.

One highlight in the trailer is when Clark seems to be telling his sons that he’s Superman, and they’re insistent that he can’t possibly be Superman until he lifts a car over his head.

Naturally, most teasers are heavily edited and stitched together so it’s possible that this isn’t how the scene plays out, but it’s enough to make fans smile. There’s also a great moment when Hoechlin’s Clark Kent comments that he wishes he could get drunk during what looks to be some kind of a party.

This version of Clark and Lois have done the Superman and Lois thing, and now they’re trying to adjust to being good parents in uncertain times, while also navigating the complexities of having the most powerful man in the universe as a husband and father.

The trailer has a distinctly prestige feel to it. It feels a lot more mature than some of the other CW shows that go for the comic book vibe. It’s not flashy. The trailer is shown with a filter that gives the whole thing a muted and understated look, which is appropriate since the action takes place in the country rather than the city.
