DC Comics has been blazing a new trail of storytelling with REPRESENT!, its new line of digital comics designed to open dialogue and share real life stories from a diverse team of writers and artists. DC just released details for the next five stories joining the series in upcoming weeks and months.

REPRESENT! is the next step in comic books, pulling away from superheroes and tales of fantasy and fable to focus on real world stories and issues. The debut issue “It’s A Bird”, which was released in September 2020, was penned by Christian Cooper, with art by Alitha E. Martinez and Mark Morales.

Cooper became famous after an altercation with a woman in Central Park while he was bird-watching. The now viral encounter with the dog owner led to discussions about race in America, and it informs the story Cooper tells in the first issue.

DC’s editor in chief Marie Javins is very excited about this method of storytelling. “Throughout history, stories have been catalysts to expand hearts, minds and culture; having the chance to do so with this group of talented writers and artists has been invigorating and has been embraced throughout DC.”

What Stories Are Coming To DC Comics’ REPRESENT! Series?

REPRESENT! Book Two features a story from Jesse Holland, with art by Doug Braithwaite. Holland recounts the story of his family’s Mississippi farm, which has been in his family since his ancestors were freed from the bonds of slavery. It has passed from generation to generation, but now Holland, a former journalist, is at a crossroads.
