Since Supergirl’s upcoming sixth season will be its last, here’s what we’d like to see before the show comes to an end.

Earlier this week, The CW announced that the upcoming sixth season of Supergirl will mark the end of the series. Star Melissa Benoist seemed to cosign this decision via social media, leading to a somewhat mutual choice to end the show on their own terms. While the news is bittersweet, it’s also a blessing that a female-fronted superhero show has lasted for six seasons to begin with. Supergirl was considered part of the Arrowverse’s Holy Trinity, paired with Grant Gustin’s Flash and Stephen Amell’s Green Arrow, so it marks the end of an era in more ways than one.

It’s not a huge surprise that the show is ending, especially since the series spent the last two seasons being a bit uneven. Season five was meant to be the “fight for Lena’s soul,” following the big reveal that Kara had been lying to Lena (Katie McGrath) about her true identity. Instead, the show seemed to turn into The Lex Luthor Show, giving more screen time to Jon Cryer’s classic villain, and sidelining major characters like Alex (Chyler Leigh), Nia (Nicole Maines), and Kelly (Azie Tesfai). Then there’s the whole Supercorp situation (more on that later), and it certainly didn’t help that the season was cut short because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Filming hasn’t even begun on the final season, so there is plenty of time for the Supergirl writers to correct course and make up for these previous fumbles, helping the show go out on top. In the spirit of finishing the series on a high note, we’ve compiled a list of things we would like to see happen in the last 20 episodes of Supergirl.
