4. Hugo

Short Sell: Hugo is a beautiful movie that features the kind of fantasy adventure that captures the imagination. And the fact that it is based on a book, makes this story that much more fun.

Perhaps it is the fact that the movie is set within the walls of a train station in 1930’s Paris or the cast, which includes Ben Kinglsey, but no matter what it is, this movie gives us a unique look at the city and its people.

Netflix describes:

"Living inside a Paris train station, an orphan eludes the rigid stationmaster, meets a legendary filmmaker and finds the key to unlocking his destiny."

3. School Life

Short Sell: When it comes to a fun dramedy, School Life is a great look at what it is like growing up in France and specifically Paris. And as a French-language movie, it feels like the story hits harder, even as it does bring the humor and comedy.

While School Life is not meant to be taken overly seriously, it is still a unique perspective on what it is like to be working in a school with students who don’t have all of the same advantages as their peers. And honestly, it was just a fun watch even if you aren’t paying attention to more serious aspects interspersed into the story.

Netflix describes:

"In one of the poorest areas of Paris, a school counselor devotes herself to working with disadvantaged students, while facing challenges of her own."
