The Walking Dead season 10 finale is almost here. Here’s your spoiler-free look at what’s coming in the final chapter of the Whisperer War.

For The Walking Dead fans, it’s been a long hiatus. Thanks to COVID-19, the highly anticipated ending to the Whisperer War arc never got to air, and now fans will be waiting another year for season 11 to start. There will be six additional episodes related to season 10 that will air in the spring. Until then, the season 10 finale is the only new content fans of the original show will get.

That fact puts a lot of additional pressure on the finale to satisfy fans and hold them over until the spring of 2021. Fortunately, “A Certain Doom” delivers on all fronts. The season finale is the perfect ending to the Whisperer War and sets up the next major story arc, which will likely be the show’s last. The Walking Dead‘s flagship show will end with an extended season 11 that should air starting in the fall of 2021.

When The Walking Dead season 10 finale opens, Beta is leading the largest undead army ever brought to screen down to the hospital where the survivors from all the communities have gathered. Without revealing any spoilers about the upcoming episode, here are 10 quick takes covering what you can expect from The Walking Dead season 10 finale:

1. You’ll Get Up Close and Personal With Walkers

As the survivors try to make their way through the massive horde of walkers and Whisperers, there will be some point-of-view switches, so viewers will get the experience of having the undead snarling in their faces, touching them, and swarming them. It’s heart-stopping. Imagine trying to walk through that and not react because if you react they will kill you….

2. The Episode Has True Toes-Clenching-in-Your-Socks Horror

One of the things that The Walking Dead does so well is blending psychological horror with visual gore and terror. There are some small moments of fear and anticipation in the finale that will have you clenching your toes in your socks. (And then there are the big scares, of course.)

3. The Whisperers Are Terrifying in Action

In this type of situation, viewers can see the real power and danger of the Whisperers. They can move through the horde, easily hunting the survivors — and the survivors can’t tell them from the undead until right before they strike. But they can also maneuver the undead to make it even harder for the survivors to get through. The Whisperers are ready for some real cat-and-mouse hunting, and so is Team Family. It’s thrilling.

4. This Episode Is Visually Stunning

During seasons nine and 10, the show went through a big upgrade in visual quality. The Walkers are truly terrifying, and the visual effects are staggering. There’s also some lushly beautiful cinematography that visually reinforces the familiar themes of the show. It’s a work of dark art.

5. Maggie’s Return Is Perfect

It’s the best way for her to return. And it’s very emotional to see her again. That’s all I’m going to say about that. It’s good to have Maggie back with Team Family. So good. She may not technically be an original, since she arrived in season two, but she’s an OG to me — and there aren’t many left. It feels like a win to have her back.

6. There Are Plenty of Surprise Moments

If you think that you already have a pretty good about what’s going to happen in the finale, trust me: You don’t. There are big surprises scattered throughout the episode, some of which most fans won’t see coming. The Walking Dead might be 10 seasons in, but it can still drop some epic surprises.

7. There’s Some Necessary Resolution

Even though the survivors are banding together to take on the Whisperers and end this war, there’s still a lot of bad blood between various people that needs to be worked out. Relationships need to be adjusted, forgiveness must be earned, and so must trust. There is a lot of necessary resolution between characters, but it seems organic and not forced or contrived. One chapter is ending, and a new one is beginning, on many levels and for many characters.

8. There Are Speeches (Of Course)

It wouldn’t be a season finale of The Walking Dead without some grand inspirational speeches. And while nothing will ever match Maggie’s speech to Rick in 7×16, there are some speeches from characters that you’d expect to make speeches — and some who you wouldn’t expect to make them.

9. Comic Fans Will Be Very Happy

Get ready, comic fans: There are several scenes you will recognize, and the show does an excellent job bringing them to the screen. But it’s not just in full scenes that you’ll notice nods to the comics. If you pay close attention, you’ll see small comic references in many places.

10. The Finale Has Everything Fans Love About The Show

This season finale is full of everything that has made The Walking Dead what it is. It’s got electrifying scares, gorgeous and gory visuals, and the hope that has kept these characters going and bonded them throughout all of these seasons.

Next. The Walking Dead to end with season 11, spin-offs in the works. dark

The Walking Dead season 10 finale is a nearly flawless episode. It’s on the list of my top five favorite episodes of the entire series. The Whisperer War was one of my favorite arcs, largely due to the mesmerizing Alpha, and at the end of this episode, I was completely at peace with how this arc ended and extremely excited for what is coming next.
