PlayStation Plus members have two brand-new offerings for the month of March. One offering is gorgeous, the other is nostalgic

Sony has been crushing it so far in 2020 with their free offerings for PlayStation Plus members. January gave us the entire Uncharted series, while February gave us the majority of the BioShock series.

So … does March follow suit?

Below are the two new offerings for PlayStation Plus members in March:

  • Shadow of the Colossus
  • Sonic Forces

Look, March’s offerings aren’t as stellar as the prior two months, let’s just say that right now. But they’re not the worst things ever either, so let’s dive in.

Shadow of the Colossus was released in 2005 for the PlayStation 2, remastered for the PlayStation 3, and remastered again in 2018 for the PS4, the version that’s free this month.

The game’s premise is simple: Find and defeat the 16 different colossuses (colossi?) throughout the world. And that’s it. It doesn’t give you much else to go on. You don’t get intricate backstories or how relationships came to be. You just go and figure things out along the way.

And man, are these visuals absolutely gorgeous. Even if you look at the screenshots from the original 2005 version, you see just how fantastic it was for that time. And the 2018 remastered version just builds on that.

Next, it’s really starting to feel like the year of Sonic. Even Xbox Live Gold members have a free Sonic game this month, and Sony jumped on the bandwagon, too, offering Sonic Forces.

When it was released, it received very mixed reviews from critics. It does have all of the charm you’d expect of a Sonic game, which makes it enjoyable to play, and the graphics are colorful and vibrant. But some of the levels feel a little rudimentary, not quite finished or executed properly, and the rest of the game kind of falls under that, even when you come across engaging levels or enjoyable bosses.

It’s not the strongest Sonic offering by any means, but it gives you a solid taste of what you’d expect from a Sonic game where Dr. Eggman defeats Sonic in the opening sequence.
