12 new things we learned from the NYCC Riverdale season 4 trailer

During New York Comic-Con, Riverdale fans were treated to a more detailed trailer that revealed even more of what’s coming to Riverdale season 4.

Just a few days before the Riverdale Season 4 premiere, a new trailer has dropped at New York Comic-Con with some of the juicy details of what’s to come. This time, there’s no footage on the mysterious crime that Betty, Veronica, and Archie are destined to commit as per last year’s finale, nor are there any scenes connected to Jughead’s disappearance. It seems that season 4 will be juggling many dramatic twists that have nothing to do with what we all feared would be at the center of this season.

Instead, the trailer shows us several new headaches that will leave the Riverdale kids with their hands full. And the Riverdale adults seem to be getting into as much trouble as their offspring. However, there are some exciting scenes depicted in the trailer that could, at the very least, shed some light on where the season is starting off.

Watch the NYCC Riverdale trailer here:

So, what exactly have we learned about season 4 from this new footage?

Fred Andrews will die on the show.

With the death of Luke Perry, it became apparent that they would have to find a way to change the story for a main character like Fred Andrews. They could have had him go off into the sunset indefinitely, but it wouldn’t have made sense considering  how close Archie and Fred were. As we’ve mourned the loss of Perry in real life, we will have to, unfortunately, watch as the characters mourn Andrews in the show after his sudden death.

Archie will finally turn the gym into a community center.

It was Archie’s plan all along to turn his boxing gym into a community center, and now he’s motivated by the loss of his father. Children will be able to go after school to box and stay out of trouble in a warm environment. And as Archie’s mom mentions, Fred would have been ecstatically proud of his son for his efforts at giving back to the community.

Archie becomes a masked vigilante.

It seems that the writers of Riverdale will be exploring the Archie comic alternate universe and making Archie into a superhero. This spandex-wearing superhero named “Pureheart the Powerful” or “Captain Pureheart” existed in alternate versions of Archie. Apparently, there’s been a bunch of easter eggs mentioning Pureheart since the beginning of the series.

And now, it seems that it is all coming to fruition. Archie will be donning a mask and fighting crime wearing all black, which is how all superheroes start. Maybe later, he’ll get an upgrade into the spandex outfit, though the trailer claims he already has one. Does this mean that Archie will be a superhero for Halloween?

Hiram is still an antagonist.

Can we get rid of Hiram Lodge once and for all? Lodge is still threatening and squeezing his own daughter, and it doesn’t look like much has changed. Veronica asks her mom to spill the beans on her father, though I swear this has happened many times before, and she may get some leverage out of it. But it’s hard to say where Veronica will end up in the power struggle with her father because, despite everything that has happened, it looks like her mom is hooking up with her dad again.

Alice Cooper is still missing.

The Farm picked up their organs and took off when they realized that their cover had been blown. And no one has seen Alice Cooper ever since they flew the coop. Betty and her brother Charles, are both working hard to find Alice, as it seems she never went more than four days without making contact.

Betty is investigating Charles.

Though Alice is still missing, Betty seems to find that Charles still being in Riverdale is suspicious. No matter, Betty has put on her sleuthing pants and is tailing Charles to get to the bottom of what he’s still doing in Riverdale. Charles is her adopted brother, and who knows if he’s even telling the truth about who he is. It wouldn’t be the first time someone pretended to be Charles Cooper.

And Betty’s not wrong about worrying about his residence in Riverdale. I mean, he’s an FBI agent working a case. Shouldn’t he be going off to find Alice in other states or cities where The Farm might turn up?

Cheryl and Toni will be Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn for Halloween.

Choni fans can officially explode from excitement because a sliver of that trailer revealed what the couple is wearing for the highly anticipated Halloween episode. Cheryl will be wearing her iconic red lips and an all-green Poison Ivy costume. Toni will be the Harley Quinn version seen in the Arkham video games.

Jughead goes away to school

It seemed like Jughead was not around a lot for the previous previews, and while we all thought it was because he was missing or dead, considering that his friends were also seen burning his beanie, it might just be because he’s away at school — at least for now. Jughead moves into an away school and ends up dealing with some preppy bullying before the Serpent gang leader within takes over and he retaliates. At least we have that to entertain us until he disappears for real.

Cheryl still has Jason Blossom… in her home.

Cheryl isn’t hurting anyone by still harboring the corpse of her dead twin Jason Blossom in her home, but it’s not helping her mental health. And I’m pretty sure it has to smell like an overturned sewer in the Blossom house by now. Cheryl keeps her brother around for chats, and I’m hoping Toni will discover this secret and talk some sense into Cheryl.

There might be a ghost in the Blossom household.

The most apparent ghost present in the Blossom house would be Jason or maybe his father, but there might just be another. During a séance, Cheryl tries to contact Jason to find that she’s connected with some other being. According to Cheryl’s grandmother, it’s Julia. Julia is the name of some creepy doll sitting right at the table with them. If Rose Blossom is right, as she almost always is, then Julia is the name of some otherworldly being we’re about to find out about.

Bettie may be hallucinating.

During one of the scenes featured in the trailer, Betty sees both the Black Hood and the Gargoyle King standing in the middle of a crowded school hallway. Since the people who were these villains are both dead, I think this was a moment of high stress that caused Betty to hallucinate, especially, since there were so many witnesses in the hallway. But I’m still crossing my fingers that these aren’t copycat killers.

Archie’s house gets shot at in a drive-by.

If Archie hasn’t been careful in his superhero adventures, there may be some people with grudges willing to unmask him. The people who drive by Archie’s house and shoot through his windows may be the repercussions of his vigilante persona.
