Is Meghan Markle running the Sussex Royal Instagram account?

When she married Prince Harry, Meghan Markle deleted all of her personal social media accounts. But now, new clues hint that she could be running their royal Instagram.

In January 2018, Meghan Markle deleted all of her social media accounts, including her personal blog, The Tig. This was all in preparation for joining the royal family upon her marriage to Prince Harry.

While the Duchess of Sussex has avoided social media up until now, according to People magazine, there are some clues that suggest that she may be the person running the newly created @SussexRoyal Instagram account. And we would not be surprised if this was in fact true.

Perhaps one of the biggest clues to who is behind the Instagram account stems from the choice of words used in posts. Rather than using the traditional British spelling of words, there have been instances when the Americanized words have been chosen instead. An example of this is the use of “organization” in a post about Baby2Baby and WellChild.

Another post used, “re-energized” over the British spelling which would replace the “z” in the world with an “s,” even though they used the word “organisation” in the same post. Do the inconsistencies mean Markle is getting used to which spellings to use?

And it is not just the American spellings that have hinted at Meghan Markle being behind the Instagram account. Another clue is the use of the word diaper in a post about donations. In Britain, the word typically used is “nappies.”

While the use of American words is not a game changer, it certainly helps that another Instagram post referencing donations included the use of both American currency and British currency. On most of the royal social media accounts, American currency is never referenced, even when it comes to donations.

Finally, we can’t overlook the fact that the Royal Sussex Instagram has used emojis on more than one post, and it is still a rather new account. This is notable because it is exceedingly rare for one of the royal social media accounts to use emojis. In fact, they are so sparingly used that it is almost never seen. And yet, on just the second Instagram post, there was an emoji used to credit a photographer. Then in another post, the heart emoji was used.

Although these clues may not be definitive proof that Duchess Meghan is the one behind the @SussexRoyal Instagram account, they certainly make a compelling case. And with her years of experience working with blogs and social media platforms in the past, it actually does make sense for her to help run the account.

Honestly, we think it would be a great idea to have the duchess post about her family and their work. It would allow her to once again have some control over what gets posted to social media, even if she can’t control what gets posted in the news media. And, of course, we can’t wait to see how the Instagram account continues to grow and evolve over time.
