Peter Dinklage guessed Tyrion’s fate on Game of Thrones and you can too

Peter Dinklage guessed Tyrion Lannister’s fate on Game of Thrones and was right, which means that fans can probably guess as well.

Let’s face it, we all love Tyrion Lannister on Game of Thrones for his sarcasm and wit. But we also feel sorry for the tortured life Tyrion’s had to endure since the day he was born.

And while Tyrion has had to deal with betrayal from his grotesque family and the women he loved, it doesn’t mean that he will have a happy ending to make up for how he was faulted. It would be common sense to fill Tyrion’s future with praise, love, and honor, but that’s not how the world of George R.R. Martin works. Good people are not immune to death and pain.

Peter Dinklage may have thought as much when he correctly guessed the fate of his character. Dinklage told Entertainment Weekly the story of how he predicted Tyrion’s end, read the script, and discovered he was right:

"“I had all these ideas in my head, and a version of one of them is how it ends up [for Tyrion]. David and Dan have a brilliant version of what I had. If I use any adjectives, it will give it away. But I love how it ended up.”"

This is good news for avid Game of Thrones fans because it means that Dinklage deduced the outcome of Tyrion’s journey through what he knows already. That means that the fandom could make the same assessment in reviewing the show. Once again, just cause Dinklage loved the ending doesn’t mean that Tyrion will not die or find himself at a loss in some way.

And to further emphasize how really messed up Game of Thrones can be when it comes to these sticky fates, Dinklage commented on the standard tropes of storytelling versus what the Game of Thrones writers have accomplished.

Dinklage said of the GOT final season:

"“We’re so used to the standard formula of bad guys dying and good guys living…What David and Dan have done with all this is beautiful, painful, and lovely. It takes the show somewhere that’s dangerous and contemporary with what’s going on in the world.”"

You’re not giving us any hope here Dinklage! The fact that he used the words “painful” and “beautiful” can only mean that the end of this show will gut us. No one uses painful and beautiful unless there’s a total massacre followed by someone amazing starting over, and usually, they’ve lost everything.

With these very vague clues in mind, we’re all hoping that in the end, Tyrion comes out a winner even if we lose everyone else along the way. Long live Tyrion Lannister, ruler of the seven kingdoms on the Iron Throne, who drinks and knows lots of things.

Game of Thrones comes back for its final season April 14, at 9 P.M. on HBO.
