My Life On A Plate by Kelis

Kelis is bringing her fans to her yard with more than just her milkshake with her cookbook, My Life On A Plate: Recipes From Around The World which was released in 2015. Kelis grew up in Harlem, New York, with her mother running her own catering business. So, her exposure to food began at a young age and her love for it is apparent in this cookbook.

Kelis is best-known for her singing, but while on tour in other countries, she explored the food of the world through small restaurants she would casually stroll into while looking for a bite to eat. This exploration of food drove her to attend Le Cordon Bleu Culinary School, and then our beloved sassy singer turned into a professional chef.

The chef takes recipes from her Puerto Rican heritage such as Shrimp Alcapuria and Pernil, which is a Puerto Rican smoked shoulder. Then she adds recipes from her travels such as her Coconut Curry Crab Soup and her Orange Chili Chicken. One of her most popular dishes is the Swedish meatballs, which her fans can’t get enough of. Kelis offers readers a taste of what she likes to eat, so we get quite a balance of flavorful foods.

And, she definitely didn’t forget her sweet tooth fanatics. She serves up a deliciously easy recipe for apple pie, perfect for the holidays… or any day! And, her ricotta biscuits are the perfect side to some homemade ice cream!
