What to expect from Cardi B’s performance at the Grammys
Cardi B has been nominated for five Grammy awards and will perform at the 61st Grammy award ceremony in Los Angeles. We’ve put together a preview of what to expect from Cardi B on Grammy night.
It’s almost time for music’s biggest night as we are just days away from the 61st Grammy Awards, which will be hosted by Alicia Keys. Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Shawn Mendes, and Taylor Swift are just a few of the nominees who may be taking home golden gramophones.
The award ceremony is already showing every sign of being a stellar night as artists such as Janelle Monáe, Post Malone, and Miley Cyrus are expected to perform.
Most importantly, Cardi B, America’s superstar rapper, is nominated for five Grammys and will also be performing. To think that just a few years ago, she was an Instagram-sensation-turned-reality star, and is now a Grammy award nominee is mind-blowing.
Here is a list of Cardi B’s nominations for the 2019 Grammys:
- Record of the Year – “I Like It”
- Album of the Year – Invasion Of Privacy
- Best Pop Duo/Group performance – “Girls Like You”
- Best Rap Performance – “Be Careful”
- Best Rap Album – Invasion Of Privacy
Even with all the competition and the odds playing against Cardi B (the number of possible Grammy nominees in a category has changed from 5 to 8), it’s exciting to see that Cardi has not only been nominated for the best rap album, but also the album of the year.
Her music has broken boundaries in this past year and it would be a sight to behold if Cardi B snags any of these awards, not only because her talent merits the recognition but because it would be historical.
For instance, Cardi B could be the first woman to win a Grammy for Best Rap performance.
Cardi found out about her nominations last December in the most unconventional way. While most found out from the internet or a media entity, Cardi B was scheduled for a court appearance and didn’t have the luxury of tuning in to the nominations.
She was exiting a Queens courthouse for an alleged strip club fight charge and the paparazzi were the ones that got to tell her all about it. Not even the grim circumstances of her visit to the court could stop her from sticking her tongue out in excitement.
Last year, Cardi B was nominated for two Grammys. And although she didn’t win, her performance alongside Bruno Mars for their single “Finesse” stole the show. This year’s performance from Cardi B will likely not disappoint, and though the details are top secret ’til the day of the event, I predict there’ll be elaborate costumes, trendy dance moves, and a montage of all of Cardi’s greatest hits.
Anyone looking to see if Cardi B wins or is interested in watching her performance can catch the Grammys on CBS at 8 p.m. EST on Sunday, Feb. 10.
