Silver Linings Playbook

Silver Linings Playbook is definitely not the typical rom-com. In fact, there is enough drama in this movie to make you forget the overall genre of the film you are watching. But at the same time, there is just enough comedy and romance to make this movie a part of our list.

Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence steal the show, although we have to give a lot of the credit to the actress for her amazing work in this film. In fact, her passion and dedication to the role of Tiffany proved that Lawrence was a star (and won her an Oscar).

Perhaps the thing that makes this movie so special is the fact that it tries not to gloss over mental illness, as well as depicting a recovery process and an attempt at finding redemption. This is a movie about love and loss, being redeemed and finding a sense of purpose in life. Even though this list is all about the streamable rom-coms, this movie hits the mark and so much more.

I do think that Silver Linings Playbook starts off rather slowly, but I ended up getting pulled into the story thanks to the characters themselves. There’s something compelling about this movie, and I think it had a lot to do with Jennifer Lawrence’s performance, as well as the idea of a man diagnosed with bipolar disorder struggling to get his life back together after violent episodes derailed things for him. When you bring in the romance aspect, it gives you a solid movie that will keep you watching until the very end.
