Rick wavers between life and death, and Maggie finally makes it to Alexandria to kill Negan. What will this mean for the future of The Walking Dead?

Tonight we finally say goodbye to Rick Grimes, and my emotions are on overload at the thought that he won’t be a part of The Walking Dead anymore. Last episode, we saw Rick near death with two herds headed for his impaled body. But the preview for tonight’s episode, titled “What Comes After,” shows Rick back on the white horse leading the walkers toward the bridge. We also see Rick having some hallucinations connecting his last moments on the show to the very first season.

What remains to be seen is if Rick’s acts of heroism are all happening in his head or if the hallucinations were an isolated moment when he was near death. Even though this is Rick’s last dance, it doesn’t mean that he has to die. There are a million ways that Rick can leave the show, and death isn’t necessarily the only option.

Tonight’s episode synopsis states:

"Rick is forced to face the past as he struggles to maintain the safety of the communities and protect the future he and Carl envisioned."

For the most part, Rick’s last episode may consist of his sacrificing himself to make sure the communities are protected from the herds. And it looks like Michonne, in turn, will ironically be protecting Negan.

A sneak peek at tonight’s episode reveals that Maggie finally makes it to Alexandria, and she’s headed for Negan with the crowbar in hand. Unfortunately, Maggie will have to go up against Michonne who stands in her way at the door, and it could result in an all-out battle.

Maggie definitely tries to manipulate her way into Negan’s cell using Glenn guilt and asks Michonne if she can really say she wouldn’t do the same had it been Rick who died. I feel that they will come to an impasse, but Rick’s absence after this episode (whether by death or departure) could seal Negan’s fate.
