Casting news for Spider-Man: Far From Home has some thinking a second villain will be in the film, ultimately setting up a Sinister Six movie.

Rumors are buzzing as more casting news comes from Spider-Man: Far From Home. This casting news, in particular, has some fans on the internet hopeful that it could lead to a movie idea that’s been shelved since the Sony fallout in 2015.

On Tuesday, Deadline reported that actor Numan Acar had been cast in Spider-Man: Far From Home. The only detail revealed about his character was that his name is Dimitri. Sony declined to comment any further on the casting news.

But even with that small bit of information, fans in the Marvel Studios Spoilers Reddit page and elsewhere, have begun to grow suspicious that Acar could actually be playing the character Dmitri Smerdyakov, aka Chameleon. Despite the slight variance in the name spelling, it was still strong enough to convince some — or at least raise eyebrows — that this Spider-Man sequel would include an extra villain.

With the added villain in its midsts, that also has some thinking a Sinister Six movie is in the works again. Previously, it seemed like all signs were pointing to “yes,” when The Amazing Spider-Man 2 premiered; a scene during the movie’s ending hinted that the Sinister Six would soon be forming for their own movie. The Green Goblin was already set up, and it looked like Rhino, Doctor Octopus, Vulture and Kraven (Chameleon’s half-brother) would all get their own movie. It was only a matter of time before the movie took off until Sony hit a wall with the email scandal, and the entire Amazing Spider-Man franchise fell through.

Now that we’ve got Vulture, the soon-to-come Mysterio, and possibly Chameleon in the re-growing Spider-Man saga, a variation of the Sinister Six might actually form again. Screen Rant speculated that Spider-Man could battle the Sinister Six in Far From Home, but there’s not enough casting news to fully say for sure if this could happen so soon. We’d need at least three other villains to come aboard if Spidey were to fight the Six in his next film.
