Outlander season 3, episode 8: Watch First Wife online
Claire is in for a rude awakening as she and Jamie return to Lallybroch and Outlander begins the second half of the season.
It seems like The Miserable Reunion with Scotland Tour 1766 continues to rage in “First Wife,” this week’s episode of Outlander.
Claire and Jamie make their way to their beloved Lallybroch and find Jenny with an ax to grind.
As TV Guide puts it:
"Claire returns to Lallybroch with Jamie, where she does not receive quite the reception she was expecting."
“I never thought I’d see you grace my front step again,” Jenny says by way of greeting her long-lost sister-in-law. In case it doesn’t translate in writing, let me tell you that Jenny’s voice is filled with disgust and anger.
You can’t really blame her: Jenny and Ian mourned Claire right alongside Jamie for 20 years. Since Claire is the protagonist — and we are privy to what’s going on in her head — it can be easy to forget that her decision to hide her time traveling ways has consequences.
In this case her choice to keep her in-laws (the only extended family she has in the 18th century) in the dark hurts everyone. Jenny and Ian are angry that Claire didn’t let them know she survived Culloden — and Jenny knows she’s being lied to, she just doesn’t know about what. As for Claire, the cool reception at Lallybroch makes her feel even more alienated.
Oh, and that’s not all! Elsewhere, the ominously titled “First Wife” will see Jamie build up the courage to tell Claire his plot device secret. I don’t think she takes the news well.
