Brianna returns to whine about her mother and Jamie stumbles into the drama of Downton Abbey, ahem, Helwater in “Of Lost Things.”
Entitled daughters, blustering lords, disrespected servants, a grand house that has its own special name — this week’s episode of Outlander feels like another British TV phenomenon. What was that PBS show with Maggie Smith called again? Oh, right, Downton Abbey!
“Of Lost Things” will see Jamie — who is going by Mr. McTavish again — spend the rest of his prison sentence working as a servant at Helwater. The utilities definitely are superior to Ardsmuir Prison‘s but Helwater, as the name suggests, isn’t exactly a paradise for Jamie. Per the teaser, our hero is forced to bear witness to a bunch of rich people craziness. The young lady of the family, for example, is not shy about wielding her power over Jamie. “You have to do my bidding,” she tells him. “Come to my room.”
Back in the 20th century, Brianna (Sophie Skelton) seems poised to take center stage and remind us that Claire and Jamie’s Epic Love has negative ramifications. Like, for example, separating a mother from her daughter by 200 years or so. “The closer we get to finding Jamie… I’m afraid of losing her,” Brianna confesses to Roger (Richard Rankin).
That’s fair, I guess. Looking at the Randall-Frasers’ situation from a normal vantage point, it’s obvious that Claire’s love for her daughter should come before her Epic Love with Jamie. But this isn’t normal; this is Outlander. So, with all due respect, Bree, get it all out in “Of Lost Things” because the rest of us are ready for your parents to reunite.
Here’s the synopsis for “Of Lost Things”, courtesy of TV Guide:
"While serving as a groomsman at Helwater, Jamie is pulled into the intrigue of the British family. In 1968, Claire, Brianna, and Roger struggle to trace Jamie’s whereabouts, leaving Claire to wonder if they will ever find him."
