Game of Thrones season 7: What exactly is happening with Jaime and Cersei?
Things could go one way or another in Game of Thrones season 7 with Cersei and Jaime Lannister, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau isn’t clearing things up.
Game of Thrones season 7 is coming. As our sister site, Winter is Coming, notes in on its own take on the following interview, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau has said a lot of things lately about Jaime Lannister. He’s said Jaime cares about the holder of the Iron Throne being someone under the Lannisters’ thumb, effectively. That was to Mashable. So was this.
Tellingly, Mashable asked if Jaime and Cersei’s relationship continues because Jaime just doesn’t know anything differently.
Even more telling is Coster-Waldau’s answer:
"“Yeah, absolutely…This has been going since they were 15/16 and it’s been all about — his life has been about serving her needs…”"
Actually, the actor has spoken about the relationship this way before. He did so earlier this year with the word accommodate playing a part at that point. It suggests that this relationship will become very important in season 7.
But Mashable also asked about Brienne. “I think he’s committed to his sister,” Coster-Waldau said. Of course, he has also said that the idea that Jaime protects Brienne by killing Cersei is a “great theory“. (Perhaps I’ll find a second love in Brienne’s hilarious reactions to Tormund’s attempts to woo her.)
Basically, what we’re saying here is that Coster-Waldau has gotten suddenly very good at dropping hints that often seem to contradict each other. However, let’s take a step back. He has actually stayed relatively consistent in hitting the Jaime-Cersei relationship as a major point in this latest round of season 7 press. Discussing Brienne seems to be a side thing rather than his emphasis. With Jaime back in King’s Landing, at least for the start of season 7, it could turn out that Jaime and Cersei together play a major role.

He has also said he knows that real spoilers are out there.
Perhaps this is just his way of counteracting them!
