Spring Baking Championship Season 3, Episode 3 Live Stream: Watch Online
As the competition builds, contestant bakers are challenged to make dandy derby delights on Spring Baking Championship Season 3, Episode 3.
May is a busy Spring month. From Spring flowers to Mother’s Day, the month is filled with celebrations. For some Southern families, the annual Kentucky Derby is the ultimate Spring celebration. From the ladies’ extravagant hats to the winning horse’s blanket of roses, the Kentucky Derby is a quintessential Spring occasion. Food Network Spring Baking Championship Season 3, Episode 3 celebrates dandy derby delights.
In the first two episodes of Season 3, the contestant bakers made bunny cakes and destination donuts. While some final products were worthy of a Pinterest fail, the winning bakers balanced amazing flavors and stunning presentations. Although no clear favorite seems to have emerged, it appears that more experienced bakers seem to have an advantage.
Check out the synopsis:
"Big colorful hats, stunning racehorses, roses and bourbon! The seven remaining bakers celebrate the Kentucky Derby with their takes on mint julep desserts and cookie garlands."
For those who don’t enjoy a good Derby favorite cocktail, a mint julep uses bourbon. My assumption is the advantage challenge will be filled with bourbon infused desserts. While the alcohol may be cooked off during the baking process, I wonder if any of the bakers, or judges, will enjoy a good snort of Kentucky’s finest spirit.
The other challenge is slated to be a cookie garland. My guess is that this challenge is supposed to emulate the Kentucky roses blanket given to the winning racehorse. Bakers with an artistic eye and talent will have an advantage. While the final product is scored both on taste and presentation, previous challenges have shown that poor presentation can get you booted (remember episode 1 bunny cakes).
Although producers didn’t ask my opinion, I would have loved for the bakers to create hat inspired treats. The iconic ladies hats at the Kentucky Derby are definitely show stoppers. From understated and classic to over the top and outrageous, Derby hats could have sparked some imaginative treats. Maybe I have spoken too soon and episode 3 will have some hat inspiration.
