9. President Tom Kirkman (Designated Survivor)

Tom Kirkman should have never become President. He not even a politician. He’s an outsider. Kirkman had never run for political office and was the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. Matter of fact he was being removed from his office the day President, Vice President and Cabinet members were killed during the State of the Union addresses. He is what they call the Designated Survivor.

Kirkman and his family are unwilling thrust into the White House. He’s new position is almost immediately tested with the investigation into the State of the Union bombing, civil rights issues in Michigan, and military intervention in Algeria. He is also finding his new staff don’t believe in him, but he is slowly winning them over. He inspires loyalty when he brings some of his people from the Housing and Urban Development office.

He has a wife who is an attorney employed at the EEOC and two young children. The fact he is a beltway outsider and has no real political affiliation. People find that refreshing to some. He is going to do things to make the country better but will not be taken for a fool. The learning curve might be steep, but he’s up for the challenge.
