The tale of two time periods.

You ever think about maybe looking in a mirror and seeing a different time and place? Or a version of yourself from another life?  I love when TV or films can give us that feeling or show us what might happen when there are two coinciding stories happening on two converging timelines.

Caitriona Balfe (Claire Randall-Fraser) has said of season 3, “For the first few episodes, we’re going to show the parallel journeys that Jamie and Claire took during their 20 years apart from one another.”

In this picture, we see her walking through a dark battlefield, bodies scattered all around her. What is most striking about this still frame is the contrast between the dark sky and the bodies in shadow and Claire in all white, standing/walking through the battlefield.

Of course, Claire isn’t really at Culloden at the time it occurred. Jamie sent her back through the stones, pregnant, before she could be harmed for being a Jacobite sympathizer. Because Claire and Jamie *knew* the outcome of the battle (even though they were trying to keep it from happening), Jamie wasn’t taking any chances.

I imagine this scene is Claire reading about, or thinking about, what may have occurred on that battlefield, and putting herself in that place. I’m sure it will be a tear-jerker!
