Sports are for everyone. But, although the World Series and the Super Bowl may be considered a big deal, the really exciting sports discussion is surrounding the growth in women's sports with huge increases in viewership numbers that are breaking records.

Sports have always had an important impact on kids, whether it be teaching leadership, teamwork, responsibility, or friendly competition. Girls who compete in sports are even more likely to believe that they can achieve their dream future.

Barbie is continuing celebrating sixty-five years by devoting an entire new line to female athletes.

According to the official press release, the Senior Vice President of Barbie and Global Head of Dolls, Mattel, stated,

""Barbie is thrilled to continue the brand's 65th anniversary celebration by recognizing the impact of sports in fostering self-confidence, ambition, and empowerment among the next generation. After welcoming Kristi Yamaguchi to our Barbie Inspiring Women line last month, we are proud to continue fueling the momentum surrounding women in sports by welcoming these nine athletes as our newest role models. The sports one-of-a-kind role model dolls serve as an embodiment of our shared values of passion, empowerment and individuality. By shining a light on these inspirational athletes and their stories, we hope to champion the belief that every young girl deserves the opportunity to pursue her passions and turn her dreams into reality.""

To acknowledge the significance that sports can have on young girls all over the world, Barbie is honoring nine professional female athletes from all around the globe, including Venus Williams, an American professional tennis player who inspires her own one-of-a-kind role model doll.

While boys have always had modeled action figures of their favorite sports stars, girls can now have a sports star to look up to in the palm of their hand. Girls deserve to see women celebrated for their success and achievements, which helps to inspire them to realize they can do anything they put their minds to.

Other female athletes that will be featured in Barbie's new line-up include Canadian Soccer player Christine Sinclair, France Boxer Estelle Mossely, Brazilian Gymnast Rebecca Andrade, and many more.
