The Encanto soundtrack keeps making music history
Is it possible for a family film to save the music industry? Encanto might be proving it to be true! The Encanto soundtrack keeps making music history. The film’s soundtrack has now spent the most weeks at number one in nearly a year on the Billboard 200 charts.
What is the magic behind the Encanto movie soundtrack?
By the end of February, the Encanto movie soundtrack spent a seventh nonconsecutive week at the top of the Billboard charts. Before the soundtrack, Morgan Wallen’s album, Dangerous: The Double Album, held the record at ten weeks in early 2021 (Jan. 23 – March 27, 2021).
Its soundtrack has also had its radio streams maintain steady airplay on the radio, even as U.S. streams have decreased. Variety reports that streams of its soundtrack have reached 29.9 million plays, and radio spins were up 23% with 7.9 million impressions.
Encanto shares this monument with other soundtracks you may be familiar with! Encanto is also only one of five soundtracks to spend at least seven weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 charts in the last 30 years. The most recent movie to achieve this was Frozen, in 2014, and lasted 13 weeks. The others include Titanic (1998), which lasted for 16 weeks, The Lion King (1994), at 10 weeks, The Bodyguard (1992), at 20 weeks, and Dirty Dancing (1987), at 18 weeks.
With a soundtrack that is filled with earworms that attract anyone and everyone, it’s easy to explain why it continues to be a hit. Its most popular song, “We Don’t Talk About Bruno,” became a stand-alone hit for Disney. It topped the Billboard 100 chart and became the second number one hit from a Disney animated film to do so since Aladdin.
