Since 2013, Disney’s Frozen has reigned supreme as one of the biggest Disney animated films around. Anna, Elsa, Olaf, and Kristoff warmed people’s hearts, as did the movie’s catchy songs. However, one, in particular, made waves. “Let It Go” became one of the most famous Disney songs, reaching number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. However, Encanto has finally broken that record. “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” is the first animated Disney movie song in twenty-six years to reach number 4.

Each song comes at a poignant part of the film, but with drastically different reasons and meanings. For example, Frozen’s “Let It Go” is a growing power ballad featuring Elsa truly embracing her ice powers for the first time as she creates a tower for herself to live in alone. It is a massive moment in the film and a song that portrays a considerable emotional and vocal range.

“We Don’t Talk About Bruno” is a vastly different song as it focuses on Mirabel, desperate to know more about her uncle Bruno, a relative who had disappeared years ago. The rest of the family refuses to talk about him, but many relatives have horror stories of Bruno’s predictions about their futures and how they came true.

Unlike “Let It Go,” which is only sung by Elsa, “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” has several of the movie’s main characters join in on the ensemble performance. While “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” makes more sense in the film’s narrative than as a separate single, it is still an amusing song that is easy enough to follow without watching the movie.

Disney has been known to create colossal hit songs that become classics. As a result, Disney music is held in high esteem, and Encanto is filled with an excellent soundtrack in addition to its emotional story and fun-filled characters. “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” has been making its mark on fans, and with its catchy tune, the song certainly deserves the praise and reaction it has received.
