Celebrating President’s Day through television and film
President’s Day celebrates every president who has served in office. For many, it’s the first holiday of the year. And because so, it tends to get overlooked. Nevertheless, we’ve gotten great movies and television shows from it. Here are just a few.
Moves and television shows to watch on President’s Day
One of the earliest movies I remember that included the plotline of a president and a first family was on the Disney Channel. This is the 1998 “My Date with the President’s Daughter”. It stars Will Friedle and Elisabeth Harnois. In the film, Friedle is in search of a date for his school dance. He meets Hallie, Harnois’ character, who he invites, unaware that she is the presidents’ daughter. She ends up sneaking out of the White House in the middle of a fundraiser and the night’s events begin.
Another great political drama that comes to mind today is “Scandal”. With Kerry Washington and Tony Goldwyn front and center, it is bound to make a fan again of old viewers and new. It takes place in Washington, D.C. as Olivia Pope & Associates (OPA) involve themselves in the lives of political heavyweights as a crisis management firm. The ABC show lasted for seven seasons. But the show can be binged from start to finish.
A film that also took a female lead into the picture was 2019’s “Long Shot”. The film was directed by Jonathan Levine and starred Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron. Rogen stars as a journalist who reunites with Theron’s character as she decides to run for president in 2020.
While these are not the only films and television shows with a president front and center, they are a great start for your President’s Day watch.
