Time to cross another bizarre item off your 2020 bingo board: Kanye West says he’s running against Donald Trump and Joe Biden in the upcoming presidential election.

This year has been a wild ride, and it’s only halfway finished — and we still have a presidential election to contend with in November here in the United States. With Donald Trump vying for another four years in office, and Joe Biden as the Democratic frontrunner, many voters have been less than thrilled with their options … and it seems like they may have a third candidate to consider when it’s time to hit the voting booth.

Kanye West Tweeted last night that he’s planning to run in the 2020 presidential election, despite the fact that he’s missed his chance to appear on primary ballots in a number of states. He’s come out in support of Trump in the past, but he’s also mentioned his plans to eventually run for the biggest position in the country — first suggesting a 2020 run back in 2015, and then hinting at a 2024 campaign later on.

The rapper took to Twitter on July 4 to write, “We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States! #2020VISION”

Some have suggested the whole thing may be a marketing ploy for a new album, particularly since West just recently dropped a new single called “Wash Us In The Blood.” (It certainly would be an interesting way to boost a project called “2020 Vision.”)

But it’s also possible West could be 100-percent serious about the decision. He has been more active in social issues recently, marching with the Black Lives Matter movement in the protests that followed the murder of George Floyd. And if he is serious about his run, it seems Elon Musk is in his corner. The billionaire responded to West’s Tweet saying, “You have my full support!” — a statement that’s been met with almost as much shock and backlash as West’s initial announcement.

Whether West actually has the paperwork to run in this upcoming election remains to be seen, but his words have certainly shaken the political landscape. Could 2020 get any ? (Please, someone say no.)
