The final season of The Expanse is just a few short weeks away  (happy tears!), and to prepare us for what looks like an epic conclusion, Amazon Prime Video has released a splashy new trailer and a larger-than-life poster that has all the feels of an incredible season.

Watch the season 6 trailer for yourselves below, and stick with us as we break it all down for you

Here’s what we love about that riveting trailer.

“We wandered, broken, trying desperately to keep ourselves going by pretending we’re not,” says the queen of them all, Christjen Avasarala (I don’t know if I can handle not seeing the esteemed Shohreh Aghdashloo in this role anymore) at the beginning of the trailer. The Expanse’s season 5 was masterful, with the establishment of Marco Inaros (Keon Alexander) as the new captivating villain of the series. He’s only amassing greater power, declaring Ceres as a capital city for the new Belter nation.

But Avasarala’s onto him and has zeroed in on the location of his ships. And she’s enlisted the help of the Rocinante crew to win the terrorist war against him. I don’t know about you, but I would never bet against Avasarala in a fight to the death, she always seems to land on top. Bonus bit: we get scenes between Avasarala and Bobbie Draper (Frankie Adams) again this season (big leap of joy).

It’s the end for the series (I’m definitely not ready), with the final season covering books Babylon’s Ashes and the novella Strange Dogs, from the series by S. A. Corey (pen name for Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck, who are also producers of the television iteration). You can see a hint of the storyline of Strange Dogs at the end of the trailer, which is probably the most intriguing bit about the sneak peek. Strange Dogs tells the story about a young Laconian girl and “dogs” that retain special abilities.

The sixth season of The Expanse features only six episodes, but don’t fret, showrunner Naren Shankar assures us that they will have a cinematic feel. Remember that epic fourth episode, “Gaugamela,” in Season 5? Awesome like that.

"“Six episodes to do this much material is difficult,” showrunner Naren Shankar said at The Expanse New York Comic Con panel, via Polygon. “What it does give you is intensity. Every episode feels as intense as it could possibly be. You never feel like you’re letting your foot off the gas pedal. By the time you get to the end, it feels cathartic.”"

Have you seen the new art for The Expanse S6 poster? It’s incredible, as expected. The stunning art features series regulars Steven Strait, Dominique Tipper, Wes Chatham, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Cara Gee, Frankie Adams, Keon Alexander, Nadine Nicole, and Jasai Chase Owens, who are all returning for the final run.

Amazon Prime will release the final season of The Expanse weekly, with the first episode dropping on Friday, December 10. I, for one, am all for the delayed releases because you really need a week to process each one of these thrilling chapters.

Next. Amazon’s The Wheel of Time could just be your next fantasy obsession. dark

The Expanse season 6 will go out with a bang with the series finale on January 14, 2022.
