YouTube Channel: Chosen One Reactions

Name: Marlie

Location: The Netherlands

Age: 25

Marlie began her Chosen One Reactions channel in November of 2018, putting her love of strong female characters in sci-fi on full display. On her channel, you can find reaction videos to everything from the fairytale adventure series Once Upon a Time to one of the greatest female-led genre television shows ever, Charmed. While many fans of the series experienced it in its initial network run, Marlie has just finished reacting to all eight seasons as of this year.

Charmed has a special place in my heart. It gave me this amazing community and lots of fans have stayed even after I’ve finished it. The show that was the most fun to react to was Roswell (1999). I still miss it. My favorite show that I’ve reacted to is Xena: Warrior Princess, though. I love it even more than Buffy now. Such a vastly underrated masterpiece of a show. Do give it a chance!” Marlie says.

When she first began her journey as a YouTube content creator, Marlie was inspired by the fandoms of shows that have long since been off of network television. Despite being part of Gen Z, her love for shows from the 90s and early 200s continue to this day.

“I enjoyed watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer reaction videos and wondered if I could do the same thing. It seemed awesome to not watch alone and be able to share my opinions and weird predictions with passionate fans. I don’t limit myself to it, but those eras tend to have the most fun cult TV shows. It’s a lot of fun to do shows no one else is doing. Sometimes I also hold Patreon polls to discover new shows,” she explains.

As for her reacting future, Marlie is unsure exactly how much free time she is going to have on her hands. Since recently graduating college, she is looking for a full-time job but hopes to find time to enjoy Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Hulu’s hit series Love, Victor.

When watching Marlie’s videos, the first thing you notice is how emotionally invested she is in the characters, especially with the Halliwell sisters of Charmed fame. In the devastating season three finale, fans had to say goodbye to Shannen Doherty’s Prue, following her behind-the-scenes departure from the series (you can see Marlie’s reaction above). Like many of us when it originally aired, Marlie grappled with whether or not to continue the series minus her favorite character.

You can find all of Marlie’s videos on her Chosen One Reactions channel here.
