YouTube Channel: Liam Duke
Name: Liam Duke
Location: United Kingdom
In just a few short years, Liam Duke has been able to amass one of the most loyal followings on YouTube, thanks to his witty commentary coupled with his sincere appreciation for the work that goes into creating television shows and movies. While he’s a huge fan of the MCU, he’s also particularly fond of such sci-fi classics as Doctor Who and Stranger Things. Like many other reactors and fans of the supernatural series, he’s become a die-hard Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan.
“Stranger Things has a place in my heart, as it was the first thing I ever did, and the interactions with the fandom, particularly during the second and third seasons were awesome. Doctor Who and Agents of SHIELD are my two favorite shows so getting to react to them was and has been such a joy. In particular, the Agents of SHIELD fandom were so supportive and engaged during the show airing, and it’s the show I miss reacting to the most. If I had to just mention one, though, it would have to be Buffy. My channel wouldn’t be anywhere near as big without it and I’ve made some really good friends through it. I adore that show so much and it’s the show that’s impacted me as a person more than anything I’ve reacted to. For the movie side of things, I reacted to the filmed version of Hamilton last Christmas and got such a lovely response from people, so that was a big highlight,” Liam explains.
Liam credits other reactors, like Torchwood Boy and Sesskasays, as inspiring him to begin doing the same thing. Creating reaction videos came into his life at a time when he was in desperate need of a distraction.
“I was in my first year of university and it was during spare time and weekends that I would scan YouTube and from there I discovered reaction videos (mainly Doctor Who ones at first). Sesskasays, Torchwood Boy, Liam Catterson, Blind Wave…I found a lot of joy and comfort in seeing them share responses to shows that were similar or sometimes more interestingly, different from my own. I’d been meaning to watch Stranger Things, so spontaneously I thought ‘I can give this a go,’ and set up the camera on my iPad, and away I went, never looking back. I was in a bit of a bad place at the time, so I found engaging with a show or movie and then editing the reaction a great distraction,” he says.
Looking towards the future, Liam is excited to be delving into yet another female-focused sci-fi classic, along with a few highly-anticipated movies.
“Commenters introduced me to Dollhouse, which I ended up reacting to, and an outcry of people asking me to cover Xena: Warrior Princess is why I decided to tackle that one I finish reacting to the whole Buffyverse. It’s a balance of what I think I’ll like alongside what people might want to see.
The Eternals and Spider-Man: No Way Home is up there. I’m also excited for No Time To Die (big fan of the Daniel Craig 007 films) and Halloween Kills (was introduced to the franchise at university and I loved the previous one in 2018),” Liam says.
If there was an award for the YouTuber with the biggest heart, it would go to Liam. He’s a delight to watch and gets so invested in the shows he reacts to. Try watching his reaction video to Buffy the Vampire‘s “The Body” episode from season five without crying right along with him. His interactions with his followers and connections with his fandoms are some of the most genuine you will ever see on YouTube.
