Celebrating Pink: 5 Ways Pink Represents Girl Power
Raise your glass everyone! It’s Pink’s birthday.
Our favorite pop/rock artist turns 42 today. And in a world where age is just a number, she does anything but represents it. If you are anything like I am, you might have sung along to every one of her lyrics before you left middle school all the way to the inception of this article. But, what if I told you, or you might have known by the music alone, that she is more than just a great musician and songwriter? Here are five things she has done to be a girl-power icon!
Pink supports Olympic Team
The recent Olympics came with some controversy. Pink caught the attention of the sexists rules over the women’s handball division and their uniform. She applauded the Norwegian team for deciding to wear shorts instead of bikinis and publicly tweeted her support. She also offered to pay the Olympic team fine.
Pink donates $1 Million
When Pink fell victim to the Coronavirus crisis alongside her son, not only did she recover, she used her resources to help others recover as well. Pink pledged to donate $1million in support of COVID-19 “healthcare professionals who are battling on the frontlines every day.” She announced the donation to be split among Temple University Hospital Emergency Fund, where her mother worked for 18 years, and the City of Los Angeles Mayor’s Emergency Covid-19 Crisis Fund.
Pink stands for body positivity
One of my favorite award speeches of all time is Pink’s recognition at the 2017 Video Music Awards. It was at this ceremony when Pink accepted the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. The MTV Video Vanguard Award is given in recognition to musicians who have achieved a landmark in their music career and have created revolutionary videos. Take a listen to her speech
Pink’s support for representation
In the middle of the Black Lives Matter movement, not only did Pink voice her support, she donated an undisclosed amount to the NAACP. Regarding the donation, she said that “it will not fix things overnight but that “it is a start – and we must do everything we can to make our country a better place for all.”
Pink’s career
Pink has created a career that has spoken to individuals of all backgrounds, ages, and times. With that, it is that we cheer to her on her birthday.
