Summer TV: Loki

Platform: Disney+

Release Date: June 9

Cast: Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Mosaku

Premise: Loki is the next chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase Four, following the commercial and critical success of WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Hiddleston returns in the role in a story that finds Loki being recruited by the mysterious Time Variance Authority in order to correct the timeline he messed up using the Tesseract.

The TVA is a bureaucratic organization that exists outside of time and space that monitors the timeline. After the events of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, the TVA tracks down Loki and gives him a choice: either be deleted from existence or help fix the timeline in order to stop a greater threat.

Hiddleston’s Loki is a fan favorite MCU character, so it makes perfect sense that he would eventually get his own show. However, what is unclear, is exactly what ramifications the series will have on future MCU stories. We know that a fair amount of the cast, including Wilson, Mbatha-Raw, and Mosaku will be playing members of the TVA. There are also reports that we could be seeing some familiar faces from the Thor franchise, including Lady Sif (Jaimie Alexander), making an appearance.
