4 things that would have made Coming 2 America the perfect sequel

2. Prince Akeem and Semmi reunite with the landlord
A strong cameo that would have been a fantastic nod in the sequel would be a reunion linking Prince Akeem, along with Semmi, and the landlord. In the original flick, the landlord was played by Frankie Faison. Faison’s character played an integral role in introducing the Zamunda royalty members to the Grimey elements of Queens when he pinned them up in an apartment filled with rats and the tracings of the tenants prior, a blind man and his dog who passed in the apartment. Per Prince Akeem’s request to “seek meager accommodations” at the apartment complex, it was the exact space he desired.
This reunion could have been done swiftly. Right before the scene where Prince Akeem’s son, Lavelle, takes him and Semmi into his apartment, they could have run into the landlord character. They could have found out he owns the building Lavelle lives in.
In that scene, the movie could have re-introduced the landlord by showing him spotting a phony con from one of his tenants trying to evade paying their rent, sort of like a modern-day scenario from when the landlord called out a tenant’s bluff to fall down the stairs on purpose to avoid paying his rent in the 1988 movie.
Faison played a key character who added to the Queens flavor and would have definitely made the Queens world pop again in the sequel. While this could have been a very minor part, his appearance would for sure spark a laugh or two.
