Nancy Drew continues to find a way to outrun the Aglaeca in “The Secret of the Solitary “
One thing that Nancy Drew seems to get right every week is that they don’t just rush through a story for an easy resolution. Every single episode since they made it clear that ghosts are real, the series has found a way to perfectly balance the supernatural with the reality of who these characters are and the actual police work that goes into things like death, murder, and general mayhem.
And in their latest episode, The Secret of the Solitary Scribe, we once again watched as the perfect balance of character growth and supernatural horror came together as the Drew Crew tried to do the obvious by returning Lucy Sable’s bones to the Aglaeca. Of course, not only did it not work, but it really seemed like it just angered the sea witch more.
However, there was a lot more to this episode than just trying to return the bones to the sea. In fact, Nancy Drew even met the sole survivor of the Aglaeca from the 1970s. And when he revealed how he had outrun the sea witch, it became clear that there are no easy answers.
Even as the Drew Crew still doesn’t know how to survive the curse that they have brought upon themselves, we got so much more in this episode because everyone seemed to realize that it was time to stop living in fear. And even if you are afraid, it is time to make a change, offer an olive branch, and find a way to live those last days fully.
Nancy Drew continues to search for a way to defeat the Aglaeca’s curse
One of the best moments on a more personal level for Nancy Drew was when she not only reached out to Carson Drew and offered him the olive branch of going with her to bury Lucy Sable’s bones, but that she also invited her biological father, Ryan Hudson. Considering Nancy is pushy and confrontational and lashing out at both men continually because of her own feelings of hurt and betrayal, seeing these three come together in this moment was actually a glimpse at what could be.
Nancy was not the only one who had a special moment with a parent, as we also got to see Ace enjoying what he believes could be his last Shabbat with his father. And maybe it is just me, but I am thrilled we are getting to see more of who Ace is outside of his friends. It would be nice if we could really give Ace a chance to shine, because he might be a favorite character for a lot of us, considering he speaks sign language, has a soft spot for helping others, and really does love his father.
Beyond the moments with Nancy and Ace, there was so much packed into this episode, that it is hard to narrow down one moment that shined more than the others. And that’s okay, because in this episode it is clear that there is a lot going on in every single member of the Drew Crew’s lives.
