The first three episodes of WandaVision have immersed its characters — and the viewers — in a world reminiscent of classic sitcoms, even if it has a darker undertone. The most recent chapter of the Disney+ series takes a break from the romance and comedy of Westview, however, to show us what’s been going on just outside of this false reality.

And seeing the story unfold from SWORD’s perspective is quite a trip, even if it’s a bit more eerie than wacky. (For the sake of this series of articles, we’ll stick with wacky.)

Watching as the FBI and SWORD attempt to figure out what’s going on in Westview is about as bizarre as it gets, though it does bring us some great Marvel Cinematic Universe cameos. We already knew Geraldine was actually Monica Rambeau (though it was nice to have it confirmed), but “We Interrupt This Program” brings Jimmy Woo (last seen in Ant-Man and the Wasp) and Darcy Lewis (last seen in Thor: The Dark World) back into the fold as well.

And as the group attempts to uncover what’s happening beyond the invisible barrier separating Westview from reality, things just get stranger and stranger. It’s not easy to narrow down, but here are some of the weirdest things that happened during “We Interrupt This Program.”

Monica’s return

The episode opens with a jarring scene that shows everyone Thanos snapped away — Monica Rambeau included — returning after Bruce Banner’s snap in Avengers: Endgame. And the moment is a far cry from the epic arrival of the Avengers as Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man are about to take on Thanos. I mean, just imagine being in a hospital and having patients that haven’t existed in two years appear seemingly out of thin air. That’s pretty much what happens, and it’s as bizarre as it gets.

Discovering Westview

After Monica returns from “The Snap,” regroups with SWORD, and discovers that her mother made sure she wouldn’t be doing any intergalactic missions if she ever returned, Monica is sent by SWORD to check out a case involving missing people. This leads her to Jimmy Woo and Westview — a town that, evidently, does not exist.

Monica then discovers the barrier separating Wanda’s false reality from the rest of the world, and it’s strange that such a thing should exist — or that people and objects can pass in and out of it without much problem.

It’s a little thing, but it certainly adds another bizarre layer to the existence of Westview.

Watching sitcoms

What’s weirdest — or wackiest, if you will — about Westview is that the people outside can watch the sitcom unfold just as the viewers can. Jimmy and Darcy watching Wanda and Vision’s marriage play out — and getting a little too invested at times — is a hilarious addition to this week’s episode, even if it’s completely unclear how they’re able to tune in.

Is Wanda purposefully broadcasting the happenings of Westview, or is this just some weird quirk of her false reality? And speaking of intentional interventions from Wanda…

Technical difficulties

Back to moments that are more eerie than wacky this week, there are a couple of instances when Darcy is watching Wanda’s sitcom and the television skips forward. These overlap with Wanda’s moments of clarity (and her angry outbursts), so it seems she’s blocking certain things from being broadcasted to the outside. (After seeing how she handled Monica, we don’t really blame her.)

Again, this could either be a strange quirk of Wanda’s power or it could be intentional. But if it’s the latter, does that mean Wanda knows she’s in a watchable sitcom? That’d be a weird thing to will into existence, but stranger things have happened in the MCU…

Post-Thanos Vision

There’s a brief moment at the end of this week’s episode where Wanda looks at Vision and sees him as he should be — colorless and missing the Infinity Stone that Thanos ripped out during Avengers: Infinity War.

It’s a sad reminder of the fact that, outside of this series, Vision is no longer present, but it also raises an interesting question about Wanda’s level of consciousness concerning Westview. It’s clear she can sometimes access her memories and that she’s able to rewind and erase the truth of this town, but does she truly have a conscious notion of what’s going on here all the time?

Given her surprise at seeing Vision like this, we have to think some part of her mind is blocking those memories, even if they emerge on occasion. Of course, we could just be giving Wanda the benefit of the doubt.

We’ll have to continue on to see just how far Wanda’s awareness goes.
