WandaVision may have subtly hinted at whatever darkness lurks beneath Westview in its series premiere and second episode, but this week’s installment has officially pulled back the curtain. “Now in Color” confirms what most fans already guessed about the Disney+ series — that everything that’s unfolding is at Wanda’s discretion — and that there is indeed some task force outside of Westview, attempting to reach Wanda and get her to stop. (Judging by Geraldine’s necklace, it’s seeming more and more like SWORD is being brought into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.)

And although the cute parenting moments and Brady Bunch callbacks are tons of fun, there’s no denying that “Now in Color” had a few more disturbing moments than comical ones.

Prior to this week, fans could have assumed Wanda was mostly unaware of what was really happening in Westview, even if she had the idea that something was a little off. This week, it feels like Wanda is fully conscious of what’s going on around her — and that she’s still willing to protect is, even if that means manipulating her own husband.

And even as Wanda and Vision celebrate the birth of their twins, it’s clear that Vision is becoming increasingly suspicious of their situation. How that will play out during future episodes remains to be seen, but it made for some wacky and eerie moments during this week’s.

So, what were some of the strangest scenes in “Now in Color”?

Wanda’s little rewind

Although fans might look past Wanda manipulating and trapping her neighbors in order to get her happy ending, what’s most disturbing about “Now in Color” is that she’s obviously willing to do the same to Vision — who it’s becoming clearer and clearer doesn’t really know what’s going on.

Early on in the episode, Vision is visibly disturbed by how quickly Wanda’s pregnancy is going along, and it seems like the unnatural events of the past few installments are finally starting to click.

When he approaches Wanda and tells her that he believes something is wrong, however, she rewinds him — and has him say something else instead.

It’s definitely one of the more twisted moments from “Now in Color,” and it makes you wonder how Vision will react when he does realize exactly what’s going on.

The stork

Most of the items on this week’s list are eerie, but the bonkers circumstances surrounding Wanda giving birth are a fun and wacky addition to “Now in Color.” Not only is it hilarious to see how her contraction pains affect everything from the town’s electrical grid to the plumbing, but watching her and Vision attempt to convince everyone including themselves that, sure, going through an entire pregnancy is less than 24 hours is a totally normal, not weird thing to do is hilarious.

The arrival of the stork while Wanda is attempting to hide her quick-moving pregnancy from Geraldine is perhaps the icing on the cake when it comes to these moments, and it shows that, even as WandaVision nears closer and closer to its more serious underlying plot, there will still be bananas moments like this thrown in to keep that fun, sitcom-esque balance.

Scared neighbors

If fans thought Herb vigorously sawing through the wall outside of Wanda and Vision’s house was weird, they were probably even more freaked out by his and Agnes’ conversation with Vision later in the episode. Not only did they seem a little too interested in what Geraldine was up to, but they were reluctant to tell Vision what they knew about her.

It felt a bit like they were about to reveal that they were trapped in Westview, but Agnes puts her usual sunny disposition back on and leaves Vision in the dark, with Herb following suit. The whole scene makes one wonder where the residents of Westview came from and how much they actually know about what’s happening there.

Whatever the answer is, one thing is certain: They’re scared. And after Wanda’s interaction with Geraldine at the end of “Now in Color,” it’s easy to see why.

Remember Pietro?

After Wanda gives birth to her twins, there’s a scene that begs the question of how much Wanda remembers about her past life. As she and Geraldine admire the new babies, Wanda makes a passing comment about how she was a twin — and the discussion that unfolds makes it clear that, whatever Wanda has forgotten about her former life, she still has memories of her brother.

Geraldine — who it’s becoming increasingly clear is some kind of agent with intel — decides to take this opportunity to ask Wanda about Pietro being killed by Ultron. And Wanda’s chilling reaction to the question suggests that she either does remember everything or is trying with all her might not to — probably some combination.

Geraldine’s fate

Wanda’s reaction to Geraldine’s question about Ultron may be scary, but even more disturbing is when Vision returns home and asks where their neighbor is. “She had to rush home,” Wanda tells him, but it’s obvious she’s lying — something that’s confirmed moments later, when Geraldine is ejected through whatever barrier protects Westview.

And outside that barrier seems to be a contingent of militant forces, either trying to help Wanda, help the townspeople trapped in Westview, or all of the above.

Could this be SWORD? It seems likely. “Now in Color” closes before fans get any real answers about what’s sitting right outside Wanda’s false reality, but it’s likely we’ll get a clearer picture next week. (Well, we’re hoping anyway.)
