Schitt’s Creek

While Schitt’s Creek had been around for years, it wasn’t until the Canadian comedy’s final season aired that it really became part of mainstream pop culture. With a staggeringly talented cast that includes Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, Dan Levy, Annie Murphy, and Emily Hampshire, the show’s sweep at this year’s Emmys was well-deserved and a long time coming. Schitt’s Creek follows the rich and pampered Schitt family, who soon fall from grace after having most of the possessions and money claimed by the IRS. Left with just the town they bought as a joke, Schitt’s Creek, the family adjusts to life among “average people,” while learning how to rebuild their lives, and be a real family, in the process.

Schitt’s Creek is kind of a reverse Beverly Hillbillies, but with more heart and character development. Each character, whether a member of the Schitt family or not, goes through a tremendous amount of change over the course of the show’s six seasons. This is the type of show that can having you busting a gut from laughing so hard in one scene, to breaking your heart into a thousand pieces the next. The series values the individuality of it’s characters, something is that all too rare in the television landscape of today. Ultimately, it’s a feel-good show that has one of the most memorable finales in recent comedy series history.
