After suffering the repercussions of COVID-19, Grey’s Anatomy is headed back to set to start filming their 17th season for ABC.

Grey’s Anatomy is officially in the process of coming back!

The longest-running medical drama on primetime television took the lockdown very seriously, because, as any good surgeon knows, “Infections are like sleeping monsters. You can’t feel them, but you must do everything in your power to contain them.”

As most shows did, Grey’s Anatomy halted production back in March due to COVID-19. Their 16th season suffered due to the change in schedule, having to cut four episodes and ultimately changing the direction of the story. Most Grey’s fans will know that the storylines on the series coincide with Station 19, so you could attempt to piece it all together. But that wasn’t the same as watching it live.

For awhile even, fans feared the worst about what would happen to their beloved show post-pandemic. There was talk that the television industry would forever be changed once life got back to normal, and fans were scared that the entire series of Grey’s would be cut short because of it. When Ellen Pompeo tweeted in early August about the possibility of filming starting up again, fans breathed a sigh of relief. And they’re even doing one better by giving COVID-19 a storyline of its own.

“There’s no way to be a long-running medical show and not do the medical story of our lifetimes, ” executive producer Krista Vernoff said during a recent panel. “I feel like our show has an opportunity and a responsibility to tell some of those stories.”

So now it’s time to slowly start bringing people back onto set so the 17th season of Grey’s can begin!
